This is an excerpt from a letter I wrote to my beloved mother late last year. I decided to share it on this day to celebrate her. My beginning. I love you Janet McPherson, unconditionally.
The other day I shed tears. I witnessed a male reaching out to his child’s grandmother. He was reaching out as he holds full custody and the child’s mother was not paying up to her end of the bargain. He reached out to her mother as he saw this as a last resort, he didn’t want to cut his child’s mother out of his child’s life. The child’s grandmother was cold, advised him to cut her daughter out of their lives as she needed to learn from her behaviour. He cried. I felt his pain as he uttered the words ‘you’re her mum you’re meant to have her back through her demise. My mum has always been there for me no matter what, I couldn’t imagine not having that support system.’
I cried.
I related. You have been there for us all throughout. No matter what. There is nothing I could do or enact which I believe would push you away. You have given me life and you persist to maintain it. In all honesty I don’t need anyone else in the world if it were just you and I.
You are one of the only people I trust whole heartedly. One of the only people that I could swear blind would give their life for me. That unconditional love. The first person I ever loved, the first person who showed me how to love.
